Was gonna write some take on the woe is me UWTL of it all when I remembered this exciting gem. Two of my favorite bands of very different generations and genres collaborating on a forthcoming album! I’m a bit late to the party on this as I guess it’s been old news and I just caught wind in the last week or two, but that’s the kind of rock I’ve been living under.
Anywho, beyond pumped for the joinedness of forces between Mr. MacManus, my favorite songwriter of all time, and Mr. Thompson my favorite hip hop drummer of all time. Alright, this attempt at the personal has spiraled out into a full on geekout, so I’ll leave you with the above vid of the first released track of this oh so holy alliance. Oh the joys of music that I oft forget.
UWTLing it up for the first time in what seems like forever. Four months to be exact. Been an equal parts fun, amazing, trying and bleak period. Been awhile since I’ve been excited for a film and TV event to the level I’m excited for the return of BREAKING BAD this Sunday. Will be extremely bittersweet that this is the last BB season premiere ever, but oh how I will savor these next 8 Sundays. At the very least, I’ll be thoroughly entertained and will have a narrative reminder that the world of Walter White is extremely more bleak than my life will ever get (that is unless I break bad for an oh so unholy career and moral compass change). This recap trailer gave me chills, hope it has some positive effect for you too.
Set out to catch up on some writing late tonight and two hours later all I had to show for it was my very first meme. Was it wrong of me to think that the meme generation needed a cheat for Quincy Jones? Without knowing he’s the one with a front row seat to this “mindblowing in 1994” action, the funny level of this meme isn’t near as high (who knows, maybe it’s not even funny as it is now?)
UWTL and checking out some stuff on This is pretty great stuff on youtube for a change. This little web series is pretty great stuff. I warn you, you watch this one you’ll have to watch all six. Stiller got turned on to these guys and is producing their second season.
Over the last few months, during this tumultuous and shockingly poor Lakers season, I have become absolutely obsessed with the coverage of this circus on ESPNLA.COM. If you don’t feel like you have enough poetic waxing on the sorry state of the Lakers in your life, I highly recommend you get into this.
Now excuse me as I cry myself to sleep as a result of tonight’s loss.
UWTL thinking about how 1985 was a pretty good year for Steven Spielberg, producing THE GOONIES, BACK TO THE FUTURE and directing THE COLOR PURPLE. Not such a bad year for myself either, as I was born just under the cutoff, a couple weeks before 1986 rolled around.
THE GOONIES is def a huge favorite of mine and in recent years I’ve been wanting to dress up for Halloween as a certain lovable big guy from the film. During a little video research into the pretty simple but cool costume, I came across this silly low budget gem of a music vid for Cindy Lauper’s title track, “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough”. I’d never seen this before, but it’s pretty fun. A super cheesy ode to the good enoughness of those who never say die. Definitely the most prestigious thing Josh Brolin, Martha Plimpton and Sean Astin have ever done. Hope you enjoy as much as I did/ feel free to share your Goonie memories below.
Was looking for something Paul Ryan-y to post and came across this gem of a CBS news brief. Funny that it takes politics to give Will.I.Am a credibility boost, funnier that it takes politics to confirm Kid Rock has little to no credibility.
I don’t believe that the Democratic side has much of an advantage in policy or strategy, but at least they have supporters with some sort of tangible and intelligent agenda as opposed to “It’s a little difficult to put myself in this position knowing I might alienate a few fans…I’m glad we elected our first black president, aight. I’m sorry he didn’t do a better job.” What a joke this whole circus is when this apathetic individual finds himself giving a shout out to the architect of the Black Eyed Peas.
